Driver Dies in Fatal Crash on Highway 50 in Sacramento

Early Wednesday morning, a driver died after crashing into a subcontractor's truck in an active construction zone along Highway 50 in Sacramento. The California Highway Patrol responded to the westbound side of the freeway near 51st Street just after 2 a.m. to investigate the crash.
At the scene, officers found that an SUV had crashed into a one-ton flatbed truck hitched to an arrow board trailer that was activated and pointing drivers to the right. Two employees were inside the truck at the time of the accident but weren't hurt.
According to CHP, "Officers found that the SUV crashed into the arrow board trailer, then into the truck." The driver of the SUV wasn't wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene. CHP is identifying him as a 55-year-old Sacramento resident whose name hasn't been released yet.
Lanes along westbound Highway 50 were blocked through early morning hours but have now reopened. However, this incident was one of three deadly crashes around greater Sacramento area on Wednesday morning.
The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information about this fatal crash should contact CHP immediately.
