Driver Chase Cloutier Escapes Sinking Truck After Crashing into Pond in Kennebec County

Driver escaped with minor injuries, could be facing charges.
A driver in Kennebec County, Maine was able to escape a sinking truck after crashing into a pond on Sunday. The incident occurred when 19-year-old Chase Cloutier of Winthrop was driving at high speed and went off the road, broke through a guard rail, crashed through trees before sinking into the pond near West Gardiner and Litchfield town line.
According to officials, Cloutier nearly hit people who were fishing before he crashed into the pond. Fortunately, he managed to free himself from the truck by breaking a window from inside and swim to shore with minor injuries. However, he refused treatment for his injuries.
The Kennebec County Sheriff's Office arrived at the scene shortly after receiving reports of the accident. They called in both Department of Environmental Protection as well as their dive team to help remove the truck from the pond.
Cloutier has been given a summons for speeding but could be facing more charges due to his reckless driving that put other people's lives in danger.
