Driver Injured in Collision with Semitrailer in Santa Cruz County

Driver sustained major injuries
A driver has suffered major injuries after colliding with a semitrailer in Santa Cruz County early Wednesday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol. The incident occurred on State Route 129 east of Murphy Road at approximately 5:40 a.m.
The authorities have determined that a 31-year-old woman from Hollister was driving east on State Route 129 when, for reasons yet to be determined, she crossed the solid double yellow lines on the road. This resulted in a head-on collision with the semitrailer. Following the initial impact, the Kia veered off the roadway and caught fire.
Due to this serious crash, the driver of the Kia sustained major injuries and was subsequently transported by air ambulance to Natividad Medical Center for treatment. Fortunately, no injuries were reported for the driver of the semitrailer involved in this incident.
As part of their investigation into this accident, CHP is currently looking into whether or not seatbelt usage played a role in contributing to these severe injuries sustained by the Kia's driver.
Authorities are still working towards determining what caused this collision. However, they have stated that alcohol or drugs are not believed to be factors in this particular case. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available regarding this ongoing investigation.
