Driver taken to hospital for injuries

A driver was injured in a crash involving two trucks on Interstate 85 Wednesday morning. The incident occurred at around 4:12 a.m. near Exit 94, just south of Lexington.

According to the highway patrol, the crash happened when a dump truck driver was traveling with the bed of the truck raised and accidentally struck the Old U.S. 64 bridge. As a result, the bed detached from the truck and was subsequently hit by a tractor-trailer, causing it to overturn.

The tractor-trailer was transporting live turkeys at the time of the accident, which spilled onto the road. The driver of the tractor-trailer sustained injuries and was promptly taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

In response to this incident, highway patrol issued a citation for reckless driving to the dump truck driver responsible for operating their vehicle with an elevated bed.

As a consequence of this collision, two lanes on I-85 North were closed for several hours while authorities worked diligently to clear debris from both trucks involved in order to restore normal traffic flow. Additionally, as precautionary measures were taken due to potential structural damage caused by impact with the bridge, transportation officials called upon Department of Transportation (DOT) personnel who arrived on scene promptly to inspect its integrity.

Furthermore, as part of these safety precautions and ongoing investigations into this matter are conducted by relevant authorities; motorists were advised that entrance ramp access from Old U.S Highway 64 leading onto I-85 North Exit 94 would remain closed until further notice. However, DOT officials have estimated that they anticipate reopening said entrance ramp no later than 3 p.m., Wednesday afternoon.

This is still considered an active investigation and updates will be provided as new information becomes available regarding any developments or changes related specifically pertaining towards this particular incident along Interstate 85 near Exit 94 just south Lexington County area.
