The deceased has been identified as Jarrod Johnson, a 36-year-old resident of Loris, according to the Horry County Coroner's Office. A press release from the coroner stated that Johnson succumbed to both traumatic and thermal injuries at the scene.

The accident took place around 9:57 a.m., approximately three miles south of Loris on Secondary Highway 97 near Hucks. Lance Cpl. Lena Butler from the South Carolina Highway Patrol provided this information.

According to a police report, the driver was operating a 2005 Ford F150 pickup truck traveling northbound on the highway when it veered off course and collided with the tree.

Emergency services swiftly responded to the scene following reports of the accident. Horry County Fire Rescue promptly arrived and successfully extinguished the ensuing fire.
