Hit-and-run, fatality
Police in Memphis, Tennessee are searching for a driver and passenger who fled the scene of a deadly crash early Tuesday morning. The incident occurred at the intersection of Central Avenue and Cooper Street in Midtown.
According to investigators, the driver of a stolen Dodge Challenger ran a red light at Cooper Street and collided with a Chevy Sonic traveling east on Central Avenue. Tragically, the young woman driving the Sonic did not survive the impact.
Witnesses recounted seeing a Challenger speeding as it blew through a red light, causing causing the Chevy Sonic car to go into air. Following the collision, a man and woman exited from inside the Challenger without showing any concern for their victim's well-being.
Authorities later discovered that this maroon Challenger had been reported stolen from Southaven, Mississippi. Additionally, they found that its expired license plate was registered under a green Dodge Grand Caravan.
Surveillance footage from nearby businesses recorded this tragic collision.
The victim of this hit-and-run has been identified as 20-year-old Ava Christoper. According to reports, Christopher had just left a celebration dinner with colleagues and friends from her job at Sugar Ghost on Broad Street when the accident occurred.
Christopher was studying biology at the University of Memphis with aspirations of becoming a veterinarian due to her deep love for animals.
