Suspected drunken driver arrested on suspicion of DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter
A suspected drunk driver has been arrested after causing a fatal multi-vehicle crash on state Route 76 in Pala, California. The incident occurred around 9:10 p.m. on Monday night and resulted in the death of a female driver who was traveling westbound on the highway. According to California Highway Patrol, the 23-year-old woman was driving east on SR-76 in a Toyota Camry when she drove into the westbound lane, causing a series of crashes involving three other vehicles.
The victim's identity has not yet been released by authorities. However, it is known that she was driving a Hyundai Santa Fe at the time of the accident and died at the scene before medical assistance could be provided.
Bianca Anahy Hernandez, who caused the collision while allegedly under the influence of alcohol, has been charged with DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter. She is currently being held at Vista jail with bail set at $500,000.
In addition to Hernandez and her passenger suffering minor to moderate injuries requiring hospitalization; two other individuals were also transported for medical care due to their involvement in this tragic event.
