Elementary Teacher Betty Bohmer Killed in Car Crash on the Way to School

Teacher killed, driver of the truck injured
An elementary teacher in South Carolina tragically lost her life in a car accident on Wednesday morning while on her way to school. The incident occurred in Roebuck, and the Spartanburg School District Five has confirmed that 47-year-old Betty Bohmer was killed in the crash.
Bohmer had been a theater teacher at Duncan Elementary School of the Arts and had dedicated 23 years of service to Spartanburg School District Five, working at various schools throughout her career. Her sudden passing has left the district devastated.
In a statement from Spartanburg District Five Superintendent Dr. Randall Gary, he said "This loss reaches far beyond the three schools this teacher has called home and impacts our entire district."
The tragic accident took place during only the second week of school for the district, with students having started classes on August 14th. According to South Carolina Highway Patrol troopers, the collision occurred around 7 a.m. when Bohmer attempted to make a left turn onto SC-290 from Highway 221 and was struck by an oncoming truck.
Authorities have reported that the driver of the truck involved in the crash was transported to a hospital for treatment; however, their current condition remains unknown.
In light of this devastating event, additional grief counselors and mental health staff will be present at Duncan Elementary School and other schools within Spartanburg School District Five if any students or staff members require support during this difficult time.
Spartanburg School District Five is situated in northern South Carolina, approximately 30 miles east of Greenville.
