A tragic accident on Tuesday morning has left a female pedestrian dead after being struck by a car on eastbound Highway 50 near Howe Avenue. According to the California Highway Patrol, the victim was walking in the #1 lane of the highway when she was hit.
The driver of the vehicle immediately called 911 to report the incident and waited for CHP at Watt Avenue. Preliminary investigations suggest that the driver was traveling at 65 mph when he saw the pedestrian and attempted to avoid her but unfortunately hit her with his car.
It is unknown if any other vehicles were involved during this time as it took CHP some time to arrive at the scene. However, there is no suspicion of drugs or alcohol contributing to this fatal accident.
The collision caused all lanes eastbound on Highway 50 to be closed for approximately two hours while authorities investigated and cleared up debris from the crash site.
