Fatal Crash in Charlotte-Mecklenburg: Joseph Richard Wash Killed

Felony Death by Motor Vehicle and Reckless Driving charges against Lamar Antoine Redfern
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police have determined that excessive speed and alcohol were factors in a fatal crash that occurred on Tuesday night on Park Road.*
According to authorities, the incident took place around 10:46 p.m. in the 9200 block of Park Road. Upon arrival at the scene, emergency responders found a heavily damaged 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee and a 2015 Toyota Camry with extensive damage to its passenger side.
Tragically, 44-year-old Joseph Richard Wash succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the accident. The investigation conducted by detectives from the Major Crash Investigation Unit, DWI Task Force, and Crime Scene Search revealed that Wash was driving northbound on Park Road when he attempted to make a left-hand turn onto Birnen Drive.
At this moment, a speeding southbound Jeep collided with the passenger side of Wash's vehicle. Authorities identified Lamar Antoine Redfern as the driver responsible for causing the accident while operating his vehicle under the influence of alcohol.
As a result of their findings, detectives obtained warrants against Redfern for Felony Death by Motor Vehicle and Reckless Driving. Once Redfern is discharged from hospital care following treatment for his injuries sustained during the crash, he will be taken into custody by Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.
