15-year-old girl died, driver and another passenger had minor injuries
The California Highway Patrol has provided additional details regarding a tragic crash in Granite Bay that resulted in the death of a 15-year-old girl on Sunday afternoon. The accident occurred at approximately 5:40 p.m. at the intersection of Douglas Boulevard and Barton Road.
According to the accident report released by the CHP, a 16-year-old boy was driving a Jeep Rubicon heading west on Douglas Boulevard when he approached a red light at the intersection with Barton Road. Simultaneously, a 17-year-old boy was driving a Cadillac Escalade traveling south on Barton Road and entered the same intersection with a green light.
Unfortunately, the driver of the Rubicon failed to stop at the red light, resulting in an unavoidable collision with the Escalade. The impact caused the Rubicon to overturn, leading to partial ejection of one of its passengers - a 15-year-old girl from Citrus Heights.
Tragically, despite being rushed to Sutter Roseville Medical Center for treatment, she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead. Meanwhile, both drivers sustained minor injuries along with another passenger who is also 16 years old and hails from Roseville.
No injuries were reported for the driver of the Escalade involved in this devastating incident.
The CHP is currently conducting an investigation into what led up to this fatal crash and why exactly did it occur. Further information surrounding why exactly did they run through that red light remains under scrutiny as authorities work diligently towards finding answers.
This heartbreaking event serves as yet another reminder about how crucial it is for all motorists - especially young drivers - to exercise caution while behind-the-wheel and adhere strictly to traffic laws designed specifically for their safety.
