One Person Killed in Des Moines Semi-Truck and Sedan Crash

One person died at the scene and another person was taken to the hospital following the crash.
A fatal accident occurred on Wednesday morning when a semi-truck crashed into a small sedan on Merle Hay Road in Des Moines. The crash resulted in the death of one person, while another was injured.
Des Moines police investigators were present at the scene near the 3800 block of Merle Hay as they worked to determine what caused the accident. As a result, southbound lanes of Merle Hay Road were closed at Madison Avenue and expected to remain closed for an extended period.
Sgt. Paul Parizek, spokesperson for the department, stated that he anticipated that the closure would last up to two more hours as of 10:30 am on Wednesday.
According to a tweet posted by officers at 8:32 am, serious injuries had been sustained during this incident. Later reports confirmed that one person died at the scene while another was taken to hospital following the crash.
Images from witnesses show a yellow semi-truck diagonally cutting across southbound lanes of Merle Hay Road with significant damage visible on both vehicles involved. The front end of the truck appears severely damaged after crashing into and knocking down a utility pole.
