Fatal Crash in Madison's Near West Side: Cortez Brooks Identified as Victim

Significant damage to the vehicle, road closed for seven hours
The Dane Co. Medical Examiner's Office has released the identity of a man who died in one of two fatal accidents that occurred within hours of each other on Madison's near west side. The victim has been identified as Cortez Brooks, a 32-year-old resident of Fitchburg.
According to the preliminary investigation conducted by the medical examiner, Brooks succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash. The incident took place on August 10 at approximately 12:30 a.m. in the 400 block of W. Washington Ave., as reported by the Madison Police Department.
Authorities have revealed that only one vehicle was involved in the accident; however, they did not disclose how many individuals were present or if anyone else was injured besides Brooks.
Images from the scene depict significant damage to the vehicle, which had been split into two parts. As a result, traffic on W. Washington Ave. remained closed for seven hours following the collision.
