Fatal Crash Involving Pickup Truck and Falling Tree in New Salem

State Police responded to a tragic accident on Wednesday morning in New Salem, Massachusetts. The incident occurred on Route 122 and involved a pickup truck that was struck by a falling tree. According to State Police, they received the call about the crash at approximately 11:51 a.m.
The vehicle involved in the accident was identified as a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado. It is still unclear whether the truck collided with the tree or if it was directly hit by it. Unfortunately, the driver of the pickup truck, a 75-year-old man, sustained fatal injuries.
An investigation into this devastating incident is currently underway. The State Police-Athol Barracks are leading the investigation along with assistance from other units including the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, State Police Crime Scene Services Section, and State Police Detective Unit for Hampshire/Franklin County.
