Liberty Fowler Dies in Fatal Crash on River Road in Newton County

One person died and another was injured in the crash.
Late Wednesday evening, June 21, 2023, a single-vehicle crash occurred along River Road just east of Main Street in Newton County. The incident was reported to the authorities at around 8:30 p.m., and Redings Mill Fire Department, Newton County Deputies, and Newton County Ambulance immediately responded to the scene. Missouri State Highway Patrol was also notified while METS ambulance and Joplin Fire provided mutual aid.
It was a single vehicle crash, that involved a Chevy Cobalt traveling west on River Road. The vehicle left the roadway before overturning into a large brick mailbox. William Deckard (21) from Joplin who was driving the car sustained minor injuries and was transported to an area hospital for treatment.
However, his 20-year-old passenger Liberty Fowler who is also from Joplin, did not survive the accident - she was pronounced dead at the scene at 2028 hours.
Missouri State Highway Patrol arrest reports indicate that Deckard has been arrested for DWI but released afterward so he could seek medical care. An unknown court date is scheduled in Newton County regarding this case.
This is still an ongoing investigation.
