Fatal Crash in Sarasota: 66-Year-Old Woman Killed in Head-On Collision with Box Truck

The Sarasota Police Department is investigating a fatal crash that occurred in the early hours of Thursday morning. The accident took place at around 2:45 a.m. on U.S. 41, near Rose Street.
According to reports from the police department, a 66-year-old woman was driving an SUV northbound in the southbound lanes when she collided with a box truck at the intersection of U.S. 41 and Rose Street. The woman died at the scene of the accident.
The driver of the box truck, a 48-year-old man, was taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital as a precautionary measure.
At this time, it is unclear whether drugs, alcohol or speed played any role in causing this tragic incident. The investigation into what happened is ongoing.
Following the collision, part of U.S. 41 had to be closed for several hours but has since reopened to traffic.
