One dead, two injured

On Thursday afternoon, June 8, 2023, a crash occurred along Old 60 Hwy rural Seneca that alerted Newton County Central Communications. The incident involved a single vehicle with three persons inside.

According to Cpl C.C. Clark of Troop D, Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP), one person died at the scene while the driver was arrested on allegations of DWI but released for medical treatment. The deceased passenger was identified as Steven Keith, an 18-year-old from Seneca.

The MSHP Major Crash Investigation Unit (MCIU) were summoned to assist in investigating the fatal crash.

The preliminary crash report dated June 8, 2023 revealed that a juvenile male aged 17 years old from Seneca was driving a westbound Nissan Altima on Old Hwy 60 approaching Palm Road when the accident happened. Benjamin Greene, also from Seneca and aged eighteen years old was another passenger in the car. Both individuals suffered minor injuries and were transported by ambulance or private vehicle to Joplin hospital for treatment.

It is worth noting that no one involved in the single-vehicle crash wore safety belts during their journey.
