Fatal Crash on Stevenson Expressway near Midway Airport

Several lanes on the Stevenson Expressway near Midway Airport were reopened after being closed for over six hours following a fatal overnight crash, according to the Illinois State Police (ISP). The crash occurred around 2 a.m. on I-55 outbound at Central and involved a white car and a semi-truck. ISP confirmed that at least one person was killed in the accident.
The outbound lanes were reopened at approximately 8:30 a.m. on Monday. During the closure, which lasted nearly 6.5 hours overnight between Harlem and Central Avenue, traffic was diverted to the Central Avenue exit.
Due to the ongoing investigation, heavy rush hour delays were expected on both outbound and inbound lanes of the expressway on Monday morning.
