One fatality, one serious injury
A tragic accident occurred on Sunday morning resulting in the death of one man and serious injuries to another. The incident took place four miles north of Towner, according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
The authorities reported that a 46-year-old man from Rugby and a 47-year-old man from Towner were traveling southbound on Willow Road near the intersection with 69th Street Northeast at around 7:30 a.m. Unfortunately, their pickup truck veered off the road to the right and then overcorrected before entering the east ditch.
As a result of this sequence of events, the pickup rolled over and tragically ejected the 46-year-old driver from his vehicle. Regrettably, he was pronounced dead at the scene by police officers who arrived shortly after.
On top of this devastating loss, his passenger—a 47-year-old individual—sustained severe injuries during the crash. Emergency services promptly transported him to a medical center located in Rugby for immediate treatment.
According to reports from the Highway Patrol, neither occupant was wearing seatbelts at the time of impact—an important safety precaution that could have potentially mitigated their injuries or saved lives.
Authorities are currently working diligently to determine which individual was driving and who occupied the passenger seat during this fatal incident.
This unfortunate event serves as yet another reminder about how crucial it is for all motorists to wear their seatbelts while operating vehicles on our roads. Seatbelt usage significantly reduces both fatalities and serious injuries resulting from accidents like these.
The investigation into this crash is still ongoing as law enforcement officials gather more information surrounding its circumstances.
