Fatal Crash in Wise County Leaves One Person Dead

According to a statement released by the Virginia State Police (VSP), one person has died in a crash that occurred near the Kentucky state line on Friday. The incident took place at around 9:42 am on Route 23, close to the 60-mile marker in Wise County, Virginia.
The VSP reported that a tractor-trailer was traveling southbound on the highway when it ran off the road. As of noon on Friday, there was one confirmed fatality due to this accident. The identity of the victim has not yet been disclosed.
As per reports from Virginia Department of Transportation's 511 Traffic Map, lane closures are still in effect as of noon and drivers are advised to avoid this area if possible.
The cause of this tragic accident is still under investigation by authorities.
