One fatality, severe injuries to SUV driver

A fatal accident occurred on Alcoa Highway, resulting in the death of one person, according to the Knoxville Police Department (KPD). The crash involved three vehicles and took place in the 1900 block of Alcoa Highway at approximately 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

Based on preliminary investigations conducted by KPD officers at the scene, it is believed that a black sedan was traveling southbound on Alcoa Highway when a FedEx semi-truck attempted to switch lanes and collided with the sedan. As a result of the impact, the sedan spun across the median and entered into the northbound lanes where it was struck by an SUV.

Tragically, the driver of the black sedan succumbed to their injuries and was pronounced dead upon arrival at University of Tennessee Medical Center. The driver of the SUV sustained severe but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to UT Medical for treatment. Fortunately, no other injuries were reported as a result of this incident.

The investigation into this crash is still ongoing, and authorities are withholding information regarding the deceased individual's identity at this time. KPD's crash reconstruction investigators were present at the scene earlier today to gather evidence and determine further details surrounding this tragic event.

The collision occurred in Alcoa Highway's northbound lanes near Cherokee Trail. By 11:30 a.m., police spokespersons confirmed that they had cleared up all remnants from the scene after initially responding shortly after 8:00 a.m.

During its aftermath, one lane along with an entry ramp on Alcoa Highway remained closed due to cleanup efforts following guidance from Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT).
