One person pronounced dead on the scene
Tragedy struck early Friday morning as one person lost their life in a multi-vehicle crash on I-40 westbound. The incident occurred on the Hernando Desoto Bridge shortly before 2 a.m., prompting an immediate response from Memphis Police.
At approximately 1:50 a.m., authorities from the Memphis Police Department were dispatched to the scene of the collision. The vehicles involved in this tragic accident included an 18-wheeler, a sedan, and a motorcycle.
Due to safety concerns and ongoing investigations into the cause of the crash, law enforcement officials diverted traffic to alternate routes via the nearby I-55 bridge. This diversion caused significant delays as commuters sought alternative paths during their morning commute.
Tragically, one person was pronounced dead at the scene by police officers who arrived promptly after receiving reports of the accident. The identity and further details about this victim have not yet been released pending notification of next-of-kin.
As of now, all lanes have been reopened, allowing traffic to flow smoothly once again.
