Fatal Semi Accident in Sedalia Claims Life of Mark Smith

The Graves County Sheriff's Department responded to a fatal accident involving a semi in Sedalia, Kentucky. The incident occurred on June 17 at around 8:50 am near the intersection of KY 97 and Burnetts Chapel Road.
Sergeant Richard Edwards arrived at the scene to find that the semi/trailer combo was fully engulfed in flames with the operator still inside. Despite efforts from Sergeant Edwards and witnesses, they were unable to save the driver due to the intensity of the fire.
The victim has been identified as Mark Smith, aged 62 years old from Benton, Kentucky. Investigations revealed that while traveling north on KY 97, Smith lost control of his vehicle when his trailer dropped off-road going around a left curve. The semi then collided with a utility pole before overturning and catching fire.
The Sedalia Fire Department was able to extinguish the flames after which authorities discovered that there had been an explosion in the cab area of Smith's vehicle. The Coroner’s Office conducted their investigation while notifying family members about this tragic event. M
