Fatal Semi-Truck and Train Collision in Madison, Missouri Leaves Russell Minnis Dead

A man from Higbee, Missouri died on Sunday afternoon after his semi-truck collided with a train in Monroe County. According to the crash report by the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 65-year-old Russell Minnis was driving his Freightliner on Missouri Highway 24 when he failed to stop at a railroad crossing equipped with a crossbar, bell and warning light. The collision occurred two miles east of Madison.
Minnis hit the train resulting in derailment while he was pronounced dead at the scene. Crews from Norfolk Southern Railroad have been cleaning up debris since Monday and replacing portions of damaged track. Authorities estimate that it will take several days to clear up all wreckage caused by the accident.
