Police Report One Fatality in Greenburgh Car Crash

Early Tuesday morning, a single-car crash in Greenburgh resulted in the death of one person. According to police reports, the incident occurred at around 1:20 a.m. on Route 119 in front of the Crossroad Shopping Center, which houses a BJ's Wholesale Club, DSW, and Home Goods.

The victim, a female driver, was driving a gray Hyundai Elantra eastbound when she lost control of the vehicle, veered off the road, and collided with a tree. The car then rolled over into a concrete stormwater channel, causing fatal injuries to the driver.

Emergency crews arrived at the scene and carefully removed the woman from the drainage ditch. A crane was then used to lift the car out of the ditch and onto a flatbed truck. Investigators have not released any further details regarding the cause of the accident.

Route 119 was closed in both directions between Yosemite and Manhattan avenues for several hours overnight. As traffic began to build up, officers diverted drivers through the shopping center while crews worked to remove the damaged car.

Police are urging anyone who may have witnessed the accident to contact the Greenburgh Police Department at 914-989-1700.
