Steven Young Dies in Single-Vehicle Crash in Madison, Maine

One fatality, one uninjured
Somerset County Deputies responded to a single-vehicle crash on Route 201 in Madison, Maine on Sunday evening. The incident occurred around 6:45 p.m., and the vehicle involved was identified as a white 2000 GMC pickup truck. According to a news release from the Somerset County Sheriff's Office, "the pickup truck struck a storage building before it rolled over and came to rest on its roof."
The occupants of the vehicle were identified as Paul Pronteau, aged 55 years old from Sand Coulee, Montana, and Steven Young, aged 42 years old from Hartland, Maine. Deputy Stacey Slate was assigned as the primary investigator of the crash and determined that "the pickup truck was traveling north on Route 201 when it veered off the left side of the roadway."
Young was partially ejected from the vehicle during impact and pronounced dead at the scene by authorities. In contrast, Pronteau did not sustain any injuries but declined medical attention after being evaluated by first responders. Neither occupant had been wearing seat belts at the time of impact.
Maine State Police reconstructed events leading up to this accident while deputies continue their investigation into why this tragedy happened in an attempt to determine who operated this vehicle at that time.
