Fatal Three-Vehicle Crash Involving Columbus Fire Truck in Gahanna

One fatality, one injured
A tragic accident occurred on Sunday night resulting in the death of one person after a three-vehicle crash involving a Columbus fire truck. The incident took place at approximately 9:59 p.m. near Gahanna, specifically at the intersection of Interstate 270 and Hamilton Road.
Columbus police dispatchers reported that the collision transpired when a vehicle crashed into the back of the fire engine while traveling northbound on I-270. Sadly, Timothy Wiggins, a 63-year-old resident from Delaware, was pronounced dead at the scene. Additionally, a passenger who is 62 years old sustained non-life threatening injuries and was transported to Mt. Carmel East hospital for treatment.
During this unfortunate event, a firefighter also suffered an injury caused by a dog that was present inside the car which collided with the fire engine. The firefighter had been assisting patients at the scene when they were injured and subsequently taken to Mt. Carmel East hospital in stable condition.
Due to this devastating crash, I-270 northbound experienced closures beyond Broad Street exit on Columbus' east side as confirmed by Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT). However, these closures were temporary and normal traffic flow resumed just before 4:00 am.
