Fatal Tractor-Trailer and Pickup Collision in Jasper County, Mo.

One driver died, another driver suffered minor injuries.
Just before 6:30 p.m. on Thursday evening, a devastating collision between a tractor-trailer and a pickup truck occurred at the intersection of MO-96 and County Road 80 in Jasper County, Missouri. The incident was immediately reported to the Jasper County E-911 by concerned witnesses.
In response to the distress call, several emergency services were dispatched to the scene, including Jasper County Deputies, Carthage Fire Department, and Mercy Ambulance. Additionally, both the Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) and MoDOT were notified of the accident.
According to Troopers from MSHP, one driver was tragically thrown from their pickup truck during the collision and did not survive. The identity of this individual has been withheld pending notification of next-of-kin.
As a result of this tragic event, all traffic on Mo-96 had to be diverted for approximately three hours until authorities could clear the roadway. This caused significant delays for motorists in that area.
The names of those involved have since been released by law enforcement officials. John James, aged 40 and hailing from Carthage, was driving a 1995 Chevy 1500 southbound on CR 80 when he was ejected from his vehicle due to impact forces. Tragically, moments later his pickup truck caught fire and became fully engulfed before firefighters arrived at the scene.
Oncoming eastbound traffic along Mo-96 included William Dunaway (42) from Neosho, Missouri who was operating a 2022 Peterbilt tractor-trailer at that time. Fortunately for Dunaway's sake but still unfortunate overall circumstances surrounding this tragedy - he sustained only minor injuries as a result of this horrific accident and received medical treatment at an area hospital.
