Fatal Two-Vehicle Crash in Jackson County, South Dakota

One fatality, serious injuries to others
Authorities are currently investigating a tragic two-vehicle crash that occurred on Saturday night and resulted in the death of one individual. The incident took place around 9:40 p.m. on Interstate 90, approximately 18 miles west of Kadoka.
According to reports, a 2020 Hyundai Elantra was traveling westbound in the eastbound lane when it collided head-on with a 2016 Chrysler Town and Country that was heading east. The collision caused significant damage to both vehicles.
The driver of the Chrysler, identified as a 24-year-old male, sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was promptly transported to Philip Hospital for medical treatment. Similarly, the passenger of the Chrysler, a 22-year-old female, also suffered serious non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Rapid City Hospital for further care.
Tragically, the driver of the Hyundai did not survive his injuries. The authorities have identified him as a 31-year-old male; however, his name is being withheld until his family can be notified.
It has been confirmed that all individuals involved in this devastating accident were wearing their seatbelts at the time of impact.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol has taken charge of investigating this fatal crash. However, it is important to note that all information released thus far is preliminary as they continue their thorough examination into what led up to this tragic incident.
As investigations proceed and more details emerge regarding this heartbreaking event on I-90 near Kadoka last Saturday night will be shared with public accordingly.
