Fatal Two-Vehicle Crash in Madison County, Missouri

Emergency crews responded to a tragic two-vehicle crash in Madison County on Tuesday morning, June 27. The incident occurred at approximately 6 a.m. on Missouri 72, just east of Fredericktown.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP), the collision took place when 19-year-old Arie P. Van Zee from Farmington was driving eastbound and crossed the center line, colliding with a westbound pickup truck. Tragically, Van Zee lost his life at the scene of the accident.
The driver of the pickup truck has been identified as 23-year-old Trevor M. Vance from Fredericktown. He sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to Festus Hospital for medical treatment.
It is worth noting that neither driver was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, according to MSHP reports. This serves as an important reminder about the importance of buckling up while operating or riding in a vehicle.
Both vehicles involved in this devastating incident were completely totaled due to the impact of the collision.
Authorities are currently investigating what may have caused Van Zee's car to veer into oncoming traffic leading to this fatal accident on Missouri 72 near Fredericktown early Tuesday morning.
