Ashbaugh died at the scene, driver of the second car seriously injured
A tragic vehicle crash in Gove County, Kansas has claimed the life of a 68-year-old man. The incident occurred on Sunday morning at approximately 10:00 am.
According to authorities, James D. Ashbaugh from Park, Kansas was traveling eastbound on I-70 when, for reasons yet to be determined, he crossed over the median and began driving in the wrong direction on the westbound lanes. In his path was a BMW being driven by a 51-year-old woman from Mission Hills who had been exiting I-70 to reach a nearby rest area.
In an unfortunate turn of events, Ashbaugh's vehicle collided with the BMW after crossing both the driving and passing lanes. The impact caused both vehicles to come to rest in a field located north of I-70 and east of the rest area.
Tragically, Ashbaugh succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the accident. Meanwhile, the driver of the second car sustained serious injuries as a result of this devastating collision.
Authorities are currently investigating what may have led Ashbaugh to veer into oncoming traffic. Further details regarding this incident have not yet been released.
