20-year-old Sahuarita resident dies in fatal vehicle crash in Sahuarita

The Sahuarita Police Department is investigating a fatal vehicle crash that occurred just past midnight on Saturday, May 13th. The incident took place on S. Old Nogales Highway, approximately half a mile north of E. Quail Crossing Blvd.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered two vehicles involved in the accident - a red Ford F150 pickup and a white Cadillac sedan which was fully engulfed in flames while the pickup was unoccupied. Green Valley Fire Department extinguished the fire.
Tragically, one person died at the scene - identified as a 20-year-old resident of Sahuarita whose identity will be released later.
A witness who arrived before police and fire personnel informed arriving officers that they saw someone leave the area northbound on foot after being directly next to the pickup truck.
Officers searched for this individual and located him; he was taken to hospital for medical examination. During their investigation into what happened, detectives learned that Camron Ortega (24), from Tucson had been driving under impairment when he crashed his Ford F-150 pick-up truck into another car causing it to burst into flames resulting in death of an innocent victim.
Police arrested Ortega for second-degree murder, driving under influence and leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death charges among others. He has since been booked at Pima County Jail where he awaits trial.
