Fayetteville-Manlius High School Student Liam McGuire Dies After Skateboard Accident

McGuire died as a result of a tragic accident.
A 16-year-old boy who fell off a skateboard in Fayetteville, New York, has died after being on life support. Liam McGuire, a junior at Fayetteville-Manlius High School, passed away on Saturday, according to an email sent by Principal Ray Kilmer to parents.
"It is with profound sadness that I share with you Liam McGuire, a member of the Class of 2024, died today as a result of a tragic accident," Kilmer said in the email.
The incident occurred on Tuesday evening when McGuire was holding onto the back of a 2010 Subaru Impreza while on his skateboard on West Franklin Street near Wellwood Middle School. He fell and injured his head. The car was being driven by a 17-year-old driver who stopped and called 911, according to Manlius police.
McGuire was taken to the pediatric intensive care unit at Upstate University Hospital, where he remained on life support until his passing.
Kilmer stated that he will be addressing students on Monday and that counselors will be available to help them cope with the loss.
"We extend our condolences to the McGuire family and to all who knew him and will miss him very much," Kilmer said. "This loss is sure to raise many emotions, concerns, and questions for our entire school, especially for our students."
