Female Struck and Killed on 101 Freeway in Los Angeles

A tragic incident occurred on Tuesday morning in Los Angeles, as a female pedestrian was struck and killed on the 101 Freeway. The accident led to lane closures through the Echo Park area.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) swiftly responded to the scene after receiving reports of the incident at approximately 3:45 a.m. The collision took place on the southbound side of the freeway near Alvarado Street. According to CHP Sgt. Jensen, it appeared that the woman had experienced car trouble and had stopped her vehicle on the freeway to assess the issue.
Unfortunately, for reasons yet unknown, she ventured into traffic lanes and was subsequently hit by a passing vehicle. Tragically, she was pronounced dead at the scene. As of now, her identity has not been disclosed.
Sgt. Jensen stated that there were no indications of foul play surrounding this unfortunate event; it appears to be an accident. However, further investigation is still underway.
Due to this incident's severity and ongoing investigation requirements, all lanes on the southbound side of the 101 Freeway were closed at Alvarado Street. Commuters were being diverted off at Benton Way according to Cal Trans District 7's tweet regarding traffic updates in response to this situation.
At present, it remains uncertain how long these lane closures will persist while authorities conduct their investigation into this heartbreaking accident.
