"One person has died in a fiery accident on I-5 in Chula Vista Sunday evening, according to California Highway Patrol (CHP). The incident occurred around 5 p.m. when a BMW overturned and caught fire. Despite receiving CPR at the scene, the occupant of the vehicle did not survive.
Traffic was redirected off the highway for several hours as emergency crews worked to clear the area. Caltrans reported that all southbound lanes of I-5 near Main were blocked following the crash, with traffic being rerouted onto Palomar Street. By 7:20 p.m., all lanes had reopened.
