Fiery crash in Gaston County leaves one dead, one injured

One person was killed and another injured in a fiery crash that occurred early Thursday morning at the intersection of South New Hope Road and Sam Brown Road in Gaston County. The incident was reported by the New Hope Fire Department.
The fire department received an alert about a vehicle on fire around 4:14 a.m., which resulted from the collision. Upon arrival, firefighters found two cars involved in the accident, with one of them already on fire.
As first responders got to work putting out the flames, they also extricated one person from their vehicle. That individual sustained minor injuries and was taken to CaroMont Regional Medical Center for treatment.
Unfortunately, one person died at the scene as a result of their injuries. Their identity has not been released yet.
South New Hope Road remained closed until approximately 8:20 a.m., causing traffic disruptions during rush hour.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is currently investigating what caused this tragic accident.
