Driver dead in fiery crash involving semi truck in Fresno County

The California Highway Patrol has confirmed the death of one person in a fiery crash involving a semi-truck and a Ford Ranger pick-up truck in Fresno County. The incident occurred on Wednesday, just before 11 am near the intersection of Shields and Academy avenues.

According to reports, the semi-truck was traveling north on Academy with a trailer full of gravel when it approached the Shields intersection. At this point, the driver of the Ford Ranger failed to stop at the stop sign and collided with the right axle of the trailer. The impact caused the Ford truck to be dragged for about 200 feet along Academy Avenue before catching fire.

Sadly, despite efforts by first responders who arrived at the scene shortly after receiving an emergency call from witnesses nearby, they were unable to save him as he was pronounced dead at that location. However, fortunately enough, no injuries were reported concerning any other parties involved in this accident.

As part of their investigation into what led up to this tragic event happening officers have closed down Northbound Academy Avenue for two hours while they conduct their investigations and clean up debris left behind from both vehicles involved in this collision.

Toxicology results are still pending as authorities try to determine if drugs or alcohol played any role in causing this fatal accident. We will keep you updated as more information becomes available regarding this developing story.
