One person killed, fire under control
A tragic accident involving a tractor-trailer claimed the life of one person on Thursday afternoon, according to the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT). The incident occurred around 2 p.m. near Chester Street in Gastonia.
The Gastonia Police Department reported that the tractor-trailer veered off Interstate 85 northbound, colliding with trees before bursting into flames. Fortunately, the local fire department was able to swiftly bring the blaze under control.
Regrettably, one individual lost their life as a result of this devastating crash. The Traffic Unit is currently conducting an investigation into the collision.
In response to this incident, NCDOT partially closed down I-85 North before Exit 17 (US 321), causing significant traffic disruptions.
