Fiery Crash in Elmhurst Traps Driver of Pickup Truck

A fiery crash on the Ronald Reagan Memorial Tollway left one person trapped inside a vehicle on Tuesday afternoon. The incident occurred at around 2:38 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 88 near York Road.
According to Illinois State Police, the pickup truck collided with a semi-trailer truck and immediately burst into flames. Smoke continued to billow from the wreckage hours after the collision took place.
The driver of the pickup truck sustained life-threatening injuries and was promptly transported to a nearby hospital for urgent medical treatment. Fortunately, the driver of the semi-trailer truck emerged unscathed from this harrowing ordeal.
As a result of this devastating crash and subsequent fire debris, all eastbound lanes on I-88 were temporarily closed off to traffic. Commuters experienced slow-moving congestion along the left shoulder as they navigated through this challenging situation.
