Wrong-way driver causes fiery fatal crash on I-94 in Afton, MN

Pick-up driver pronounced dead at the scene. FedEx driver taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
A fatal crash occurred on a stretch of interstate in eastern Minnesota, suspected to have been caused by a wrong-way driver. The State Patrol responded to the accident at the Manning Ave. exit on I-94, which is approximately 11 miles east of St. Paul. According to the state crash report, a pick-up truck was traveling west in the eastbound lanes of I-94 when it collided head-on with a FedEx semi-truck around 3:30 am on Saturday morning.
The two vehicles burst into flames upon impact and while the FedEx driver was rescued from the fiery crash, unfortunately, the pick-up driver who was trapped inside his vehicle did not survive and was pronounced dead at the scene. The Ramsey County Medical Examiner is working towards identifying him.
The injured FedEx driver has been identified as Thomas Loran Roberts from Eau Claire, WI aged 69 years old; he sustained non-life-threatening injuries and has been taken to hospital for treatment.
Due to road work being carried out in both directions of I-94 traffic had already been shifted towards what are usually westbound lanes before this incident took place. Traffic in both directions had to be rerouted for about five hours on Saturday morning following this tragic event.
As per latest updates received until now (10 am Saturday), I-94 East remains closed due to ongoing investigations related to this accident.
