Kia driver pronounced dead, tow truck driver and passengers with non-life-threatening injuries

A tragic wrong-way crash on Interstate 95 in New Haven, Connecticut resulted in a fiery collision and the loss of one life early Wednesday morning. The incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. on the southbound side of the Pearl Harbor Memorial Bridge, commonly known as the "Q" Bridge.

According to state police, troopers were dispatched to respond to a crash involving a tow truck. Preliminary investigations indicate that a Kia Optima was traveling in the wrong direction on I-95 South when it collided head-on with the tow truck, which was occupying the center lane among five lanes of traffic. As a result of the impact, the tow truck burst into flames.

Tragically, Jimmie Wilson, a 41-year-old resident of West Haven who was driving the Kia Optima, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the tow truck and its two passengers sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to an area hospital for evaluation.

In order to conduct a thorough investigation into this devastating accident, authorities closed down the southbound side of Interstate 95 throughout Wednesday morning. The Collision Analysis Reconstruction Squad (CARS) also arrived at the scene to assist with determining what led up to this fatal collision.

Law enforcement officials are urging anyone who may have witnessed or possesses information about this crash to come forward and contact Trooper Morales #1369 via email at [email protected].
