Five children hit by van at crosswalk in Pollock Pines

Four children were injured, two with major injuries and two with minor injuries.
Four children were injured in a car accident that occurred on Wednesday morning at a marked crosswalk in Pollock Pines, California. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the incident happened around 10:42 am when a man driving an appliance repair van hit five students from a Montessori school who were crossing Pony Express Trail near Oak Street.
The driver of the Ford E-150 stayed on the scene and is cooperating with authorities. CHP stated that alcohol, drugs, and excessive speed are not suspected to be factors in the crash at this time. However, investigators are looking into whether distracted driving played a role.
Two of the children, one boy and one girl, sustained major injuries and were airlifted to UC Davis Medical Center. The other two boys were taken by ambulance; one with major injuries to Sutter Roseville Medical Center while another boy and girl received minor injuries and were transported to Marshall Medical Center.
All of the victims involved in this tragic event are students aged six or younger from the nearby Montessori school located within walking distance of where they were struck. The owner of the strip mall confirmed that all four injured children attended their institution.
As per CHP reports no charges have been filed yet but investigations continue regarding what caused this unfortunate incident which has left several families devastated.
