Five people, including four members of the same family, tragically lost their lives in a devastating crash on Wednesday night. The incident occurred on Interstate 81 in Franklin County and involved an RV towing a trailer and a tractor-trailer with double trailers.

The collision took place shortly before 9 p.m. in the northbound lanes of I-81 between Exit 16 (U.S. 30 - Lincoln Way) and Exit 20 (PA 997 - Scotland) in Greene Township. As a result of the accident, this section of the road had to be closed for approximately ten hours.

According to Pennsylvania State Police, the cause of the crash was determined to be a blown-out front left tire on the southbound RV. This caused it to veer across the grassy median into oncoming traffic, resulting in a head-on collision with the tractor-trailer.

The victims who were traveling in the RV have been identified as Donald Molander, Kimberly Molander, Miranda Molander, and Dane Molander – all residents of Middletown in Dauphin County. Tragically, they were pronounced dead at the scene along with their dog.

The driver of the tractor-trailer has been identified as James Shade from Martinsburg, West Virginia.
