Negotiations ongoing

"The United Auto Workers union is threatening to go on strike at Ford Motor Co.’s Kentucky Truck Plant in Louisville over a local contract dispute. Nearly 9,000 workers could strike on Feb. 23 if the issues are not resolved.

This would be the second strike at the plant in a year, following one during national contract negotiations last October that resulted in significant raises for employees. The factory produces heavy-duty F-Series pickup trucks, Ford Excursion, and Lincoln Navigator SUVs.

The union cites health and safety concerns, minimum nurse staffing levels, ergonomic issues, and attempts to reduce skilled trades workers as key points of contention. Negotiations are ongoing between Ford and the union.

If the strike proceeds as planned, it will start at 12:01 a.m. on Feb. 23. There are also discussions for 19 other local agreements with Ford and negotiations with General Motors and Stellantis.

Ford CEO Jim Farley recently mentioned that last year's strike altered their relationship with the UAW significantly. He indicated that future decisions about production locations will be carefully considered due to this shift."
