Heslop died, Hillsborough resident suffered non life-threatening injuries, third driver not injured
A New Brunswick man, identified as Mario Heslop by the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office, died in a three-vehicle crash on Monday at the intersection of Hamilton Street and Hillcrest Avenue in Franklin. The Hillsborough resident who was involved suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital. The third driver refused medical attention.
The police arrived at around 5:30 p.m. on Monday and began administering lifesaving measures to Heslop, who was driving a 2013 Infiniti Q50S when he crossed the centerline while traveling eastbound in the left lane and struck another vehicle that was traveling west in the left lane of Hamilton Street. The second vehicle driven by a Hillsborough resident was then hit from behind by a third vehicle also traveling west.
Heslop is considered one of New Jersey's best high school sprinters ever; he won multiple championships for Franklin High School where he set state records for his achievements.
A GoFundMe page called Unexpected funeral costs has been created by Colleen Bowen of Franklin Township on behalf of Cynthia Mclean (Heslop's mother) with an aim to raise $30,000.
