A former basketball player at Louisiana State University tragically lost her life after being struck by a car in Memphis, Tennessee. The victim has been identified as Danielle Ballard, aged 29, according to the Memphis Police Department.
The incident occurred on Thursday, July 13th when authorities received reports of a pedestrian hit at the intersection of Coleman Road and Raleigh Lagrange Road around 1:30 a.m. Emergency services rushed Ballard to a nearby hospital where she was sadly pronounced dead.
Thankfully, the driver responsible for the accident remained at the scene until law enforcement arrived. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is ongoing.
Danielle Ballard had an impressive career playing for LSU's women's basketball team for three seasons. Her talent and dedication earned her recognition as a preseason All-SEC First-Team selection before the start of the 2014-15 season. She played an instrumental role in leading the Lady Tigers to their second consecutive NCAA Sweet 16 appearance with an outstanding performance during that year's NCAA Tournament.
Before attending LSU, Ballard showcased her skills at Central High School in Memphis where she graduated in 2012. ESPN ranked her as number 25 overall and seventh position rank during her time there.
This tragic loss has left both LSU and Memphis communities mourning Danielle Ballard's untimely passing. Our thoughts go out to her family and loved ones during this difficult time.
