Service on SEPTA's West Trenton Line suspended. Road closures and cleanup ongoing.
A freight train collided with a cement truck early Thursday morning in Middletown Township, Pennsylvania, resulting in the suspension of service on SEPTA's West Trenton Line and causing delays for motorists and students in two school districts. The accident occurred near the Woodbourne Station at around 5:30 a.m., specifically at the Big Oak Road and Township Line Road crossing.
SEPTA spokeswoman Kelly Greene confirmed that service on the West Trenton Line has been suspended until further notice. Commuters are advised to check SEPTA's system status for the latest updates regarding train services.
According to the Middletown Township Police Department, there were no reported injuries from the collision between a CSX train and a cement truck. However, road closures and cleanup operations are expected to continue throughout the afternoon or possibly into early evening. Motorists and residents are urged to avoid the area until further notice while police officers redirect traffic away from the crash scene.
Fortunately, authorities have determined that this incident does not pose any hazardous risks to public safety. Although small amounts of diesel fuel along with gypsum (plaster or drywall dust) were found near where the crash took place, there is no danger present for local residents.
CSX, SEPTA, and Middletown Township's public works department have dispatched teams to evaluate and initiate cleanup efforts at the crossing site. It is anticipated that these operations will last well into this afternoon or potentially extend into early evening hours.
The Neshaminy School District has issued an advisory stating that several streets surrounding the accident site are currently impassable due to ongoing cleanup activities. Specifically affected areas include Hickory Lane, Cornerstone Drive, Township Line Road, Flint Road as well as Harpers Cross which remains inaccessible at this time. The district's transportation department has requested patience from parents as they work to complete the bus run in that area as soon as possible.
Similarly, the Pennsbury School District has warned of potential transportation delays resulting from the accident. They have advised parents in the affected area to consider driving their children to school if feasible due to road closures preventing buses from reaching certain stops. The district anticipates a ripple effect across its entire network and urges drivers to allow extra time for buses to reach their intended stops this morning.
