Gas tanker catches fire in Ferrisburgh, no one hurt

The truck is a total loss. Approximately 80 feet of the roadway sustained damage to the existing pavement to a depth of three-quarters of an inch.
A natural gas tanker caught fire on Route 7 in Ferrisburgh, Vermont around 11:15 p.m. Thursday night. The incident was reported by a good Samaritan who noticed sparks that led to an explosion. The driver of the tractor-trailer was alerted and stopped before the rig went up in flames.
The truck was destroyed in the explosion, and even damaged some parts of the road from the intense heat generated by the fire. Road crews have made temporary repairs to keep Route 7 open but will need to return later for further repairs as approximately 80 feet of roadway sustained damage.
The cause of this accident remains under investigation, but power has been restored in affected areas after utility lines were repaired throughout Friday. Fortunately, no one was hurt during this incident which left residents shaken due to its intensity.
