Granby Woman Dies in Car Crash on Pleasant Street

Driver charged with motor vehicle homicide, manslaughter, and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon
A tragic car crash in Granby, Massachusetts has resulted in the death of a young woman. The incident occurred on July 1st on Pleasant Street, and now the driver is facing charges related to her death.
According to Laurie Loisel, spokesperson for the Northwestern District Attorney's Office, Cory Menard, a 30-year-old resident of Granby and boyfriend of the victim, Katelyn Gress, has been charged with three criminal offenses. These include motor vehicle homicide while under the influence of alcohol and negligent operation, manslaughter while under the influence of alcohol, and manslaughter.
In addition to these charges, Menard is also accused of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon due to injuries sustained by another driver involved in the accident.
The crash took place at approximately 1:15 a.m. near the intersection of Pleasant Street and Barton Street. Menard was driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee when he allegedly lost control. The vehicle struck mailboxes and telephone poles before rolling over multiple times and colliding with a Lexus SUV.
Tragically, Katelyn Gress did not survive the crash. She was just 28 years old at the time of her passing. The driver of the Lexus, identified as a 74-year-old man from Springfield, suffered minor injuries and was taken to Holyoke Medical Center for treatment.
On Wednesday, Menard pleaded not guilty during his appearance at Eastern Hampshire District Court. His bail has been set at $2,000. However, he will only be released if he adheres to certain conditions which include refraining from alcohol use and complying with remote alcohol monitoring through an assigned device that tracks his consumption levels. Furthermore, Menard is prohibited from driving until further notice as his license has already been suspended.
