One person dead, another injured

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) is currently investigating a high-speed chase and crash involving a stolen vehicle that resulted in one fatality and another person injured. The incident is also being treated as an officer-involved shooting.

According to ALEA, gunfire was exchanged between an occupant of the truck and ALEA troopers during the pursuit. Fortunately, no officers were harmed. It remains unclear whether the occupants of the truck sustained injuries or were killed due to the rollover crash or from trooper gunfire. To shed light on this matter, the Alabama State Bureau of Investigation has launched its own inquiry.

Troopers attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a 2018 Dodge Ram 3500 pickup truck at approximately 2:26 p.m. The driver refused to comply when contact was made on I-65 south at mile marker 185. The driver then fled from law enforcement, leading troopers to engage in pursuit. As a result, the suspect caused two separate traffic crashes before ultimately crashing and overturning near mile marker 173 in Montgomery County, close to Montgomery's Northern Boulevard.

Numerous law enforcement officers swiftly arrived at the scene following the truck's crash around 2:38 p.m., with one ambulance leaving around 3:20 p.m., accompanied by multiple law enforcement vehicles trailing closely behind.

Prattville Fire first responders attended two wrecks along I-65 - one near Prattville at mile marker 178 which closed down Cobbs Ford Road. And, another at mile marker 173.

Initially, both directions of the interstate were blocked due to this incident. However, it has since been fully reopened.
